This piece of equipment will increase our combat effectiveness as well as our survivability RRD Team 1 received three BETA MAG™s prior to our deployment to Thailand. We tested these magazines under realistic live-fire and FTX conditions with an excess of 8,000 rounds of 5.56 ball and tracer each. The operation of the weapon was smooth, with no malfunctions occurring. During our operations in Kosovo, we used four BETA MAG™s. As most of our patrols were mounted and in vehicles, we decided that each navigator would have his weapon outfitted with the BETA MAG™. During the range fires, we fired it from the prone, kneeling and standing positions, as well as working snap drills and transitions. During all instances, the magazine performed as expected. It worked as advertised. ODA was deployed on the island of Basilan (southern Philippines) for a total of 5 months. The ream received both M-4 and M-249 SAW BETA MAG™s just prior to deployment. All team members used the BETA MAG™s throughout the entire deployment with different frequency. The BETA MAG™s worked well while mounted and in the urban environment. Overall ODA felt that the BETA MAG™s exponentially enhanced our combat effectiveness throughout the deployment. When I first purchased my BETA MAG™, I was skeptical about the reliability and durability of the composite drum magazine in a war zone. Im pleased to report that my BETA MAG™ only suffered one malfunction throughout the entire 6 months I served in Afghanistan. I'd estimate that I placed 5000 rounds of M855/856 through my BETA MAG™ and with the exception of a dust/mud-related malfunction, it worked as advertised.
